Oklahoma Awards First Medical Marijuana Patient Licenses

More than 1,600 people and businesses applied for Oklahoma medical marijuana licenses on the first day that applications were made available.

The online application system went live at 10 a.m. Saturday at http://www.OMMA.ok.gov for all potential medical marijuana patients, growers, dispensaries, processors and caregivers. Oklahoma State Department of Health spokesman Tony Sellars said that by Saturday evening, the agency had received 1,054 patient, 634 business and three caregiver applications.

What is Industrial Hemp ?

In the Industrial Hemp Regulations, industrial hemp includes Cannabis plants and plant parts, of any variety, that contains 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or less in the leaves and flowering heads.

Industrial hemp also includes the derivatives of industrial hemp plants and plant parts. These do not include the flowering parts or the leaves.

Examples of derivatives that are considered industrial hemp include: hemp seed oil (oil derived from seed or grain) and hemp flour.

Illinois Governor Signs Bill Legalizing Industrial Hemp

Gov. Bruce Rauner on Saturday signed a bill legalizing industrial hemp, adding Illinois to a growing list of states that allow the growth of cannabis for non-drug purposes.

“Legalizing the farming of industrial hemp just makes good sense,” Rauner said in a statement. “Roughly 38 states — including our neighbors in Wisconsin, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri and Tennessee — have allowed or are considering allowing cultivation of this crop for commercial, research or pilot programs. Our farmers should have this option as well.”

The United Nations’ Stance on Cannabis

Countries pursuing cannabis reforms have been giving the United Nations something to think about when it comes to drug policy. The UN is an organization that was established to encourage and promote international cooperation on a variety of topics. When founded in 1945, only 51 countries were members, now, in 2017 193 of the 195 countries in the world are members. The mission of the United Nations is to maintain international peace, protect human rights, the environment, encourage social and economic development as well as provide humanitarian aid in times of crisis. Beyond those goals, the UN has also defined protocols influencing the framework of international drug policy.

Hemp Oil Newspaper Notice Ozona Texas

Today (8/16/18) In the newspaper there was a notice to anyone selling hemp oil. The notice stated “To anyone selling any of the various brands of hemp oil in Ozona. If the oil contains any amount of the banned substance, THC, the sale or purchase of any such product is a felony in the state of Texas. Please be sure if you possess any of the hemp oil products, it does not contain any THC.”
